This team has the responsibility for taking breakthroughs and delivering them to market at scale.Meta Reality Labs seeks a Materials Characterization Laboratory Engineer with the ability to test and verify the broad spectrum of materials to consumer products at scale. We are looking for slightly impatient individuals willing to face down their fear of failure to accomplish bold things.Responsibilities:In this role, you will be responsible to test sample part and/or material for reliability requirements, develop and write reliability testing standard/requirements, and perform the reliability tests. This position requires for you to work on test and characterization of materials reliability in a laboratory setting.As a Material Characterization Laboratory Engineer, you will originate and develop analysis methods to determine reliability of components, equipment, and processes. You will acquire and analyze data, prepare report (diagrams, charts, drawings, calculations, etc.) and define reliability problems and make recommendations for improvements.Use fundamental materials engineering principles to design test setups to measure properties (mechanical, optical, chemical, and physical) of materials. Job responsibilities include:-Prepare sample coupons and testing setups for testing. Work with Vendors/Suppliers or cross-functional teams to collect samples as needed.-Work cross-functionally with engineers to design innovative characterization and reliability techniques-Analysis of test data and documentation of results-Present findings to materials engineers and cross functional teams (Product Design, Manufacturing Design, Reliability, Tooling, Simulation etc.) to help interpret experimental results.-Work with vendors to develop and commission new laboratory equipment as needed for reliability testing.-Work with vendors to maintain and upgrade existing laboratory equipment.-Develop and revise internal material reliability specs and standards.Basic qualifications:-Bachelor’s degree in materials science, metallurgical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field.-Experience with some or all the following characterization techniques:-Material reliability testing; drop tests, fatigue tests, other relevant tests to understand and compare material properties.-Mechanical testing: tension/compression, 3-point bend, 4-point bend, lap shear, hardness/impact tests, etc.-Microscopy (Optical and Electron)-Experience with preparing material sample coupons for testing-Good Communication and Presentation skills-Able to write up summary and conclusions for test reports-Able to perform data analysis of the results and comparisons ((Excel (Macros, Regression, Pivot tables), JMP, Minitab)Preferred qualifications:-Knowledge of materials (plastics, composites, magnets, metal, and alloys)-Experience with some or all the following characterization techniques:-FTIR and UV-VIS spectroscopy-SEM, EDS, XPS, XRF, XRD-DSC, TGA, TMA, thermal diffusivity, heat capacity-CT Scan, 3D scan, Laser Scan, Optical Scan-Experience with Matlab and Python programming
