Responsibilities:-In this role, you will work on test and characterization of materials in a laboratory setting.-Use fundamental materials engineering principles to design test setups to measure properties (mechanical, optical, chemical, and physical) of materials.-Prepare sample coupons for testing.-Work cross-functionally with engineers to design innovative characterization techniques-Analysis of test data and documentation of results-Present findings to materials engineers and help interpret experimental results.-Work with vendors to commission new laboratory equipment.-Work with vendors to maintain and upgrade existing laboratory equipment.Basic qualifications:-Bachelor’s degree in materials science, metallurgical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field.-Experience with some or all the following characterization techniques: -Mechanical testing: tension/compression, 3-point bend, 4-point bend, lap shear, etc.-Hardness/impact tests-DMA, Rheometry-Microscopy (Optical and Electron)-Experience with preparing material sample coupons for testingPreferred qualifications:-Knowledge of materials (plastics, composites, magnets, metal, and alloys)-Experience with some or all the following characterization techniques:-FTIR and UV-VIS spectroscopy-SEM, EDS, XPS, XRF-DSC, TGA, TMA, thermal diffusivity, heat capacity-CT Scan, 3D scan, Laser Scan -Experience with Matlab and Python programming-Experience with data analysis (Excel, JMP, Minitab)
